15101188 INTRODUCTION TO EDUCATION (1st semester) 5 ECTS

1. The purpose of the course is a) to familiarize students with the basic terminology and themes of Pedagogical Science, b) to inform on the evolution of educational thought in the last centuries and c) to understand the effects of current developments in the field of education.

2. A chart summarizing the course contents 1) Declaration of fundamental pedagogical concepts. 2) Objectives, instruments and agents of treatment. 3) Pedagogy as Science (object, utility, scientific foundation). 4) Pedagogy in Educational Sciences. 5) Branches and modern trends of Education. 6) Overview of the main educational and pedagogical movements from the 18th century to the mid-20th century. 7) The pedagogical and educational movements during the 2nd half of the 20th century: presentation and critical analysis. 8) Modern developments (globalization, knowledge society, multiculturalism, European integration, etc.) and their effects on education. 9) The role of schools and teachers in the modern era.
